Homework in Class 1
Reading and Comprehension
We read daily in class and have the same expectations for home. Each week, children are provided with a new reading book and reading record for parents/carers to comment on their child's reading. It is recommended that children read for 10-15 minutes daily, whether this be a book provided by school or other books/comics they may have at home.
Each Wednesday, children will be given a set of words to practice spelling and using in sentences in preparation for a test the following Monday. Children's spellings are provided based on phonics sounds they have learnt so far in Read Write Inc and words expected of their age from the National Curriculum.
Children are provided with weekly homework based on the current Maths learning that week. Homework will be given on a Wednesday in the children's homework book and should be handed in the following Monday to be marked. If your child has difficulty completing their homework, then this can be discussed on the Monday so it can be handed in the following day.
Occasionally further homework projects may be set based on our current topic e.g. research using books and the internet, but suitable time will always be given to complete this.
